Said to be "one of the companions-in-arms of William the Conqueror", from St. Quintin in Lower Picardy, was ...
Sir Herbert St. Quintin of Skipsea (Skipsey), Brandesburton, etc.
1. Oliver St. Quintin of St. Quintin Castle
  m. Adeliza (a 1134)
  A. Sir Robert St. Quintin of St. Quintin
  B. Sir Herbert St. Quintin of St. Quintin
  i. Amatellus St. Quintin
Either Amatellus was the same person identified in TCP as Richard de St. Quintin, father of Herbert, father of the 5 sons mentioned below or TCP disagrees with BLG1886, BEB1841 and BE1883 on the lineage hereabouts (something that would not be unknown). For once we do not side fully with TCP as TCP identifies Richard "if his first name is correctly recorded", brother of Herbert, as supporting Robert FitzHamon in the conquest of lands in Wales in 1090. The Burke records suggest that the person who did that was Sir Robert, shown above as Amatellus's uncle. The dates lead us to suspect that the Burke records are right in including an additional generation. However, we note that BLG1952 (St. Quintin) does not start its pedigree until Anthony of Harpham (d 1444), thereby possibly indicating some uncertainty on these earlier generations.
